Differential Diagnosis

DKA and HHS must be differentiated from the following:

  • Alcoholic ketoacidosis
  • Chronic renal failure
  • Diabetes insipidus
  • Ingestion of drugs (eg salicylate, methanol, ethylene glygcol, paraldehyde, isopropyl alcohol)
  • Lactic acidosis
  • Pituitary gigantism
  • Starvation ketosis
