Camrelizumab combo therapy shows promise as TNBC treatment

Camrelizumab combination therapy demonstrates potential benefits in the treatment of patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), suggests a study.

A group of researchers searched the databases of Medline, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane CENTRAL, and Clinicaltrials.gov from inception till March 2024. They conducted a meta-analysis on the R version 4.3.3 using “meta” and “metasens” packages through RStudio and pooled proportions using a random effects model. Higgins I2 statistics was used to assess heterogeneity between studies.

Nine studies including a total of 357 patients met the eligibility criteria. The overall risk of bias was low.

The overall response rate was 58 percent (95 percent confidence interval [CI], 30‒84; I2, 94 percent) with camrelizumab combination therapy.

At 1 year, the survival rate was 71 percent (95 percent CI, 54‒85; I2, 49 percent), and progression-free survival was 22 percent (95 percent CI, 0‒25; I2, 93 percent). Twenty-five percent (95 percent CI, 10‒44; I2, 85 percent) of patients had stable disease at last follow-up, and 11 percent (95 percent CI, 2‒25; I2, 79 percent) had progressive disease.

The most common treatment-related adverse event (AE) was neutropenia (66 percent), followed by leukopenia (59 percent). Among general AEs, the most frequent was fatigue (51 percent) and asthenia (32 percent).

“Camrelizumab combination therapy showed promising results in TNBC treatment, with good survival outcomes,” the researchers said. “Depending upon the outcomes of future phase III trials, factors influencing the efficacy of camrelizumab might be explored.”
