Low back pain, also called spinal pain or lumbago, is pain, stiffness, or discomfort in the lower back area below the costal margin and above the gluteal creases.
Low back pain can be classified based on the duration of symptoms: acute (onset of symptoms <4 weeks), subacute (symptoms appearing 4-12 weeks prior to consult), and chronic (onset of symptoms >12 weeks before consultation).
The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) is a subjective tool used to evaluate a patient’s perceived functional disability, and can be used to assess low back pain.
Treatment is tailored to the patient’s condition and needs.
For further information regarding the management of Low Back Pain, please refer to Disease Algorithm for the Treatment Guideline.
